Nfm Family Mediation Training In The West Country (Cornwall)

Family Mediation Training Plymouth Course Outline This course is suitable for both those who wish to practice as family mediators and those who would like to acquire new or enhance existing skills and knowledge which have a wide application in other professional contexts. Module 1 Introduction To Mediation 13th 14th 15th July 2011 Participants will learn about the principles of mediation the stages of the mediation process and how to assess suitability for mediation with clients including consideration of domestic abuse and safeguarding issues. Module 2 Mediating Children S Issues 23rd 24th 25th August 2011 This module will provide the foundation for mediating children s issues with parents through all stages of the process including developing options and recording agreements. It will place the issues within a legal context and will also focus on the emotional aspects of separation and divorce both from the parents and the children s perspectives. Module 3 Mediating Legal And Financial Issues 20th 21st 22nd September 2011 During these three days the focus is on mediating finance and property matters that are consequent upon separation and or divorce. Participants will revise the stages of mediation and gain an understanding of relevant statutes case law and welfare benefits. They will learn how to help clients develop options for settlement which are fair and manageable. They will also be given guidance in presenting financial schedules and writing up memoranda of understanding. Consideration will be given to the power imbalances that can exist in relationships and how to manage these. It is possible to take individual modules or a combination. For those wishing to practise as family mediators in all issues mediation satisfactory completion of all three modules is a prerequisite. Such individuals will then need to fulfill further practice requirements details of which can be obtained from Nfm see contact details below Completion of both Modules 1 and 2 is required for those who choose to qualify as mediators in children s issues only. It would also be suitable for other professionals particularly those working with children and families affected by divorce and separation and for those helping family members to resolve conflicts. Attendance on Module 3 alone is suitable for those who have taken modules 1 2 previously and wish to add to the skills and knowledge learned. It is also ideal as a refresher course for trained mediators particularly those returning to the profession after a break from practice. Child only mediators wishing to upgrade to undertake publicly funded work in all issues mediation would need to fulfill further practice requirements see above and below Cost £750 per module or £2000 if all three are undertaken.
