Public Relations and Celebrity Internship (West End)

Details about the role This is an exciting opportunity for a recent graduate or someone looking to move into the charity sector. The role is varied and will offer a high degree of job satisfaction for a skilled and enthusiastic communicator. The post holder will have 3 main responsibilities 1. Raising Profile To raise the profile of the charities aims and objectives using Scottish based celebrities 2. Promotion of the Appeal To promote the Calman Cancer Support Centre Appeal and it activities 3. General Media Relationships To build strong relationship with the Scottish media This role will help to build and deliver a growing base of supporters all of which depend on efficient administration creativity and planning. Essential Criteria Knowledge and Experience Experience of working in a relevant role in a busy press office or Pr agency. Educated to degree level or equivalent. An excellent understanding of the way the media works at national and regional level with a proven track record of media relations success. Experience of establishing and developing lasting and productive relationships with journalists. Experience of working with celebrities and celebrity agents. Excellent computer skills and a high level understanding of how It can support communications. An understanding of the needs of volunteers involved in media relations work and some of the issues they may face. Skills Abilities Excellent verbal and written communication skills including press materials and report writing. Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to deal confidently with a range of people at all levels. Excellent planning and organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload deal with conflicting demands and meet tight deadlines. Ability to negotiate agreement on expectations and outcomes in a busy environment with changing priorities. Ability to apply tact and discretion in the handling of sensitive material and confidential information. Attributes An extremely proactive self-starter with the ability to spot maximise and follow through media opportunities and solutions. Solution focussed in the face of challenges and conflicting demands. A genuine commitment to providing proactive high quality and client focused communications expertise. An enthusiastic and genuine commitment to the work of Cancer Support Scotland aims and objectives. An appreciation of the issues for people affected by cancer working with the media and an ability to meet their needs. A flexible approach with a willingness to work outside of core hours. Expenses Cancer Support Scotland will refund all expenses incurred in travelling to and from your home to Gartnavel Complex Glasgow and other travel expenses incurred during the role.
