It Deskstop Administrator (West London)

Main Purpose We have just over 100 office based desktop users in a mostly Microsoft environment. These are also in excess of 200 home based workers others using our intranet. The Desktop Administrator is to provide It support to local and remote users and carry out some local server administration tasks. The Desktop Administrator will need to categorise support issues and decide when they can solve a problem and when it needs to be referred to more senior employees or resolved via a service contract. Skills Level Knowledge And Experinece Essential A thorough knowledge of Ms Office Standard 2010 Windows 7 active directory and network printing are required. Professional customer service skills including patience tolerance clarity commitment and the ability to remain effective when working under pressure are essential personal attributes. Desirable Experience of computer hardware Exchange Linux Nt Server Windows Nt Visio database concepts and helpdesk software would all be useful additional knowledge. Qualifications Microsoft qualifications such as an Mcp or Mcse would be useful for this role. It not already obtained the post-holder should be working towards these qualifications. Main Responsibilities Duties The focus of the role is to support users when their computers go wrong either through limited user knowledge software error or hardware failure. Specific regular tasks include Amend active directory as authorised users change Adding printers to the network and troubleshooting when printing problems occur Maintaining the photocopier in association with the machine s service company Ordering and installing printer supplies Setting up new computers including loading appropriate software adding to the domain and familiarising users Preparing older computers either for reallocation to new users or for safe disposal Using ghosting software to clone computers where this is appropriate Helping users with using Microsoft Office Standard products Support remote users accessing the network for file access or to use a terminal services desktop Using Ms Exchange to create new mailboxes and manage existing mailboxes Manage user and department file storage controlling access in line with organisation policy Troubleshooting local file servers following instructions from the Network Administrator for more complex issues Recording any problems with back-ups and reporting these to the Network Administrator Updating the telephone system (Ip based) as needs and users change Changing the structured cabling in line with user needs Keeping software up to date by testing and installing updates Support users in the finance and membership departments with specialist software by working with the software suppliers under their service agreements Logging and prioritising calls to the It help desk and maintaining records of completed and open support requests The above outline responsibilities are to be carried out with a high level of customer care and empathy with users experiencing It problems. Whilst the role is primarily office hours on occasion the post holder will need to carry out some work outside of these hours for which compensatory time off will usually be given. Some travel to offices outside London will be required. Salary £20k pa.
