Oracle Database Administrator (Birmingham)

My Birmingham based client is looking to recruit an experienced Oracle Database Administrator responsible for the maintenance upgrading and performance tuning of the Odbs supporting the Quality Assurance System and other systems managed by the group. Be required to provide advice and guidance to the Qas development team to assist them in the support and enhancement of the applications managed by the group. Key Tasks Contribute to the technical design and coding standards used for the applications managed by the Qas group. Ensure your work conforms to and supports the Qas group development processes. Plan and undertake training and education to maintain required level of personal technical competency. Provide technical guidance to members of the Qas development team. Perform regular monitoring of the performance of the Odbs and proactively resolve problems that are causing problems. Regularly review the size of the database and working with the server administrators extend as necessary to meet growing data storage demands. Apply new versions of the Oracle Database and Application server software. Apply scheduled and emergency patches to the Oracle Software. Perform regular and ad hoc backups of the Oracle Databases. Communication Be able to demonstrate excellent communication skills both written and verbal. Effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to vendors contractors and employees of the organization. Build effective relationships with the Development team and strive to understand their problems and needs. Perform effective and proactive communication across functional groups and throughout the Is organization. Attend the monthly application user group teleconferences. Undertake travel as required in the UK Europe and North America. Provide out of hours support to the Quality Application Services group as required. Work out of hours when deploying solutions to the live application systems and performing routine or emergency maintenance. Education Experience Able to demonstrate competence as Database Administrator working with the 9i (or later) version of the Oracle Database. Able to demonstrate competence with Oracle Data Guard. Able to demonstrate competence with the Linux operating system or equivalent. Able to demonstrate competence with Oracle Application Server version 9i or later. Bsc degree in Computer Science (or an equivalent and or related technical qualification) Experience of Quality Management Systems would be an advantage. The ability to demonstrate competence in Pl Sql development would be a distinct advantage. The successful candidate must possess problem solving attributes be technically aware and have the ability to listen to customers opinions and requirements. Have a get the job done attitude and seldom gives up until a job is complete. Interviews are being conducted week beginning 13 June 2011 for successful candidates.
