Options For Life is a voluntary organisation and registered charity (no. 1064848 which enables people with a learning disability to advance their personal development and lead a full life within the community using the support and friendship of staff and volunteers. We offer a range of different services under the umbrella of 4 options and employ approximately 80 staff. For more information about Options for Life please visit our website at w.optionsforlife.info We currently have a vacancy for a full-time permenant Support Worker at our service in Tipton. 37 hrs week 900am to 430pm Monday to Friday Salary £12757 14584 (pro rata) starting salary will depend on qualifications and or experience As part of a team the post-holder will plan and deliver a varied and interesting programme of community based leisure and social activities for people with learning disabilities using a person centred planning approach. In addition the post-holder may be required to provide personal care and work on a one-to-one basis with a service user who displays challenging behaviour. As we have a fully-equipped woodwork shop we are specifically looking for someone who can lead woodworking sessions with service users creating saleable items as part of our fundraising efforts. Essential criteria prior experience of engaging with people with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour a relevant qualification (e.g. Nvq 2 in Health Social Care) or the willingness to work towards this qualification woodworking carpentry skills good inter-personal and communication skills a warm friendly and approachable personality the ability to take part in active sessions with service users eligibility for UK employment Desirable criteria aged over 25 (to satisfy a condition of our minibus insurance and holding a full UK driving licence with D1 eligibility (i.e. can drive up to a 17-seater vehicle) prior experience of driving a minibus and the ability to drive a minibus for a minimum 2 hours per day a knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance a knowledge of health and safety issues including risk assessments The successful applicant will be required to undergo an Enhanced Crb and will be checked against the Isa barred lists for vulnerable adults and children.
